Youth Development League – Lower (U13/15) – Uxbridge – Sat 03 May 2014

Our Under 13/Under 15 squad at Ealing Southall & Middlesex finished fifth in their first YDL match of the season last Saturday at Uxbridge. There were familiar faces in the team, and plenty of PBs for them, but there were also many new faces enjoying a first taste of track and field competition.

For the U15 team, Reade Owen clocked up a PB in the 100m A race, while Daniel O’Sullivan won the B with a very promising first race for us. The pair then went on to win the A and B long jump events, Reade producing his second best jump to date, and Daniel again showing huge promise. Reef Hook won the 300m A race and came second in the 200m, with a PB in both events. Reade, Daniel and Reef then polished off a fine afternoon’s work, together with Rajan Alhajazi, by winning the 4 x 100m relay. In the longer distances, Patrick Owen and William Coutts ran PBs in the 800m and 1500m. Luke Miller scored useful points in the throwing events, placing second in the discus and javelin and third in the shot.

In the Under 13 category, Louis Clow also had a busy day, notching up a PB when winning the 75m hurdles A race, another PB in the long jump, and placing second in his first 200m race.

U15s Lottie Horton and Laura Davies ran PBs in the 100m, while Cameron Thomas took a big slice from her PB in the 800m. In the field, Hannah Thurston took a big leap forward with a PB and win in the long jump A string, while Roisin Lynch produced her best high jump to date.

For the U13 girls’ squad, Lucy O’Brien ran a PB in the 800m A race and improved her long jump by nearly half a metre.

With all the novices putting in a tremendous effort, it was a commendable start. With the next match a home fixture, we have a realistic prospect of overhauling Vale of Aylesbury, who finished just 17 points ahead. With better coverage of some of the events, we could even challenge St Mary’s Richmond, so let’s have a good turnout.
