Once again Debbie McCaw was a points machine, as she won the A string hammer, discus and shot. She was backed up in all four throws by Zoya Styles, who won the B string hammer. Roisin Lynch was also a force to be reckoned with, winning the B string high jump, coming second in the B string triple jump, and also getting close to her best in the 800m. Amber Henry (pictured) reduced her season’s bests still further in both the 100m and 200m.
For the men, Chris Hepworth was the only winner, in a well-judged 800m that saw him battle hard in the finish straight for a decisive victory. It was his best 800m since 2015. Club stalwart Kamau Muhamed competed in five events and achieved a PB in the 200m. Sprinter Tom Sanders stepped up to the 400m too and was rewarded with a PB. Nick Steel came along expecting to run the 3000m but sportingly switched to fill a gap in the 1500m B, where he was significantly quicker than his 2016 debut at the distance.
It’s been a disappointing season for us in this League. The final match is at Perivale on Saturday 19th August, and it would be some consolation to have a good turnout for this home match.
