SEAA Intercounties XC Champs – Oxford – Sat13 Dec 2014

Six of our talented juniors travelled to Oxford on Saturday to represent Middlesex at the South of England Intercounties Cross Country Championships. It was a sunny day and the course looked like a relatively easy parkrun from the start and finish field, but this was deceptive, as conditions were cold and the going underfoot very muddy in parts.

In the U17 men’s race, Mukhtar Farah finished in the top third of the field (25th) and Charlie Sillett was 65th. Mukhtar was the third scorer in the Middlesex team, which was placed fourth, just one point ahead of Hertfordshire.
In the next age group down, George Kerry was in the middle of the field at 49th overall. He was the fourth and final Middlesex runner in the U15s, helping the team to fifth place against the other counties.

In the U17 women’s race, Erica Wallace was just outside the top third of the field, in 29th. She was second scorer for Middlesex, which finished eighth.

Nicola Ravenhill placed 57th in the U15 girls’ race and fifth of the Middlesex runners to cross the line. The county was sixth in this age group.

Lucy O’Brien finished in the top half of the field, in 44th, but was also run out of a place in the scoring team by just six seconds. Middlesex had one of its best results in this race, finishing second.
