English Schools XC Champs – Leeds – Sat 17 Mar 2018

Five ESM athletes represented Middlesex at the prestigious English Schools National Cross Country Championships held in Leeds earlier this month.

U20 Nicola Ravenhill was making her fifth appearance at these championships; for U20 George Kerry it was his fourth. Both are now in their final year at school, so it was also their last.

Jessica Leane competed last year so she had some idea what to expect. She had a good race, finishing 42nd. Angel Grimes-McTavish also ran well, mixing with the U20s, whereas she has been racing in the U17 age group this winter.

Last year, Mohamed Ali finished second in his race. This time he faced a much bigger challenge, as he ran in the U17 men’s race, despite being still only 14. (The age category definitions can be confusing to the uninitiated!)

For Lucy Henson, it was a whole new experience – and a big task as she also moved up an age group from U13 into the U15 Girls. She described it as “incredibly tough and muddy” but an amazing experience: “10 out of 10”.

Well done all the athletes and their coaches.
