CAU Inter-Counties XC Champs – Birmingham – Sat 07 Mar 2015

Five of our young athletes were selected to represent Middlesex in the Inter-Counties cross-country championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham last Saturday. The event took place in glorious Spring weather, but the undulating course still presented a challenge in this high quality competition.

In the 5km U17 women’s race, Erica Wallace crossed the line around a fifth of the way down the field (57th out of 273), and was third scorer for Middlesex. It was a good result for the County team, which finished 11th out of 40.
Lucy O’Brien was part of an especially strong County team in the U13 girls’ race, held over a 3km course. Middlesex was ranked 4th out of 41, and Lucy placed seventh in the County team.
The club had two representatives in the 6km-long U17 men’s race. Mukhtar Farah finished around a quarter of the way down the field (71st out of 274) and Charlie Sillett was 215th. Mukhtar was second scorer in the Middlesex team, which finished 16th out of 38, and Charlie placed seventh. The U15 boys’ race took in 4.5km of the parkland, and George Kerry was second Middlesex scorer, finishing in the top half of the field (124th out of 301). The County finished 20th out of 41.

Well done to the athletes, their coaches and their team managers.
