ESAA XC Champs – Blackburn – Sat 14 Mar 2015

Five of our young athletes represented Middlesex at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships in Blackburn yesterday. All six races comprised fields of well over 300, and a total of almost 2000 young athletes raced over the undulating course in Witton Park.

Erica Wallace’s 73rd place was an excellent performance in the Intermediate Girls race, held over a 3.6km course. She led home the Middlesex team of six, backed up by team-mates Nicola Ravenhill and Laura Stewart. Each race covers two school years, and Nicola and Laura are at the younger end of this category, so they did well to score third and fifth respectively for the team.

Lucy O’Brien was 224th in the Junior Girls race over 3.2 km and was the sixth scorer for Middlesex, which finished exactly halfway down the ranking at 22nd. Like Nicola and Laura, Lucy was racing with girls in the year above her at school.

George Kerry raced in the Intermediate Boys over a 5.5km course, where he placed 215th. He was seventh Middlesex runner to cross the line, hence just outside the scoring team, which finished 16th.

Well done to these athletes for achieving selection and for performing well at this high level.
