Following his indoor 1500m PB set at the Lee Valley Middle Distance Open last Wednesday, Mohamed Ali went on to win silver at the national indoor championships in Sheffield on Saturday.
According to coach Steve Mann, the aim was “just to test out where he is now. He had only completed a few track sessions beforehand and has been concentrating on getting in the strength work for the Summer. The race was very tactical and gradually wound up as they went through in 68″ for the first 400m. The last kilometre was under 2:40, so at this time of the year we were very happy with the performance, especially as he was stepping down [in distance] from his main event”.
He was beaten by Henry Johnson of Houghton Harriers, who is well known to Mohamed. Henry is a 1500m specialist and after speaking to him, Mohamed learned that Henry had been doing mainly track training throughout the Winter.
