North West London League – Greenford – Sat 29 Sep 2018

It was a perfect late summer’s day for cross-country, and we had some good results – including two individual winners – though numbers in the younger age groups were slightly down, with several of them opting for the Ealing Mini Mile the same afternoon.

U11s Roger, Junaid & Finlay

The U11 boys and U13 girls ran together over 2K. Mia was the best of our girls, though she got caught at the first tight turn and was last at that point, so she did well to pull back some places. (She went on to win her race at the Ealing Mini Mile!) Olivia Grigg and Sonia Ouzhene were running their first cross country race for the club and they continue to improve; Olivia led Mia for a fair proportion of the race.

U11 Finlay Vadon ran a very good race, demonstrating his good racing brain. (He was another one who went on to compete in the Mini Mile that same afternoon!) Roger Robles and Junaid Frances made their cross country debuts and coped well over the 2km.

U15 Lucy Henson

The U13 boys and U15 girls ran together over 3K. Lucy Henson was prominent for the girls, running well in what is her first year in this age group (and still mixing athletics with her football). Anna Ilchenko also had a good run behind her, showing a return to form. In the boys’ race, Alec Edgar made a good transition to the U13 age category.

Seweryn winning the U15B race

The U15 boys and U17 women ran together over 4K. Seweryn Czapka led from the start as other runners fell away in the last kilometre. Ultimately though there was one person clinging on as he entered into the home straight and Seweryn had to use all his 800 metres track speed to win by inches.

For the women, Lucy O’Brien had a strong run to finish fifth. Anisa Ibrahim wasn’t far behind and Charlotte Cooney Quinn did well to hobble home battling tightness down her left side. This made a difference to the team result, as they finished third.

Mohamed winning the U17M race

The U17 men were up against some strong opposition from Hillingdon but Mohamed Ali started to pull away mid-race and only team-mate Elias Ahmed could stay with him. Mohamed pulled away in the last 500 metres but slowed to a walk over the line almost allowing Elias to catch him.

Chauncey Edwards made a bright start but Arun Manget closed him down mid-race before Chauncey pulled away again. The U17 team won the match.
