Harrow Hill 10K – Harrow – Sun 16 Feb 2020

Like many other events on the weekend of Storm Dennis, this one nearly didn’t happen! With a section of Kenton Road reportedly flooded, organisers Metros RC had to do a few last-minute course changes to deliver the promised 10K route. Sadly, they couldn’t do much about the weather, but seven ESM members battled their way round gamely…

Sarah, Liam, Mark & Ian

Sarah Gerrie was the second female (and first veteran) across the line, while Ian Leslie took the M60 trophy. Ian was impressed at the cheerful demeanour of the Metros marshals: “hardy souls”, he commented afterwards.

Mark Kencroft wasn’t too far adrift of the M50 prize either, finishing second in that category. Second-claim member Claire Morris won the W40 age category wearing her Ealing Eagles vest.

It was hard to get everyone in the same place for a photo, as most were just keen to get changed out of their wet things and get warm. (Andy Price was tramping back up the hill to his car when the above shot was taken). Well done to everyone.

These were not the best conditions to judge a race, and we’ll leave the last word to Sarah: “I could not have been less enthused about a race, particularly after a rather late night, but somehow managed to run relatively well. It’s actually a really lovely, local low key race so would recommend it”.

ESM results summary (chip times):

12 Mark Kencroft (V50) 41:19, 16 Sarah Gerrie (V35) 42:36, 24 Andy Price (V40) 45:16, 25 Ian Leslie (V60) 45:29, 41 Liam Kencroft 48:08, 122 Liz Mann (V55) 61:51, 130 Danielle Mercey (V60) 62:41
