Craig Carscadden awarded MBE for services to disabled sport

Craig Carscadden, one-time member of the club, has been awarded an MBE for his services to athletes with disabilities and to the Paralympics.

He’s now based in Bristol and a member of Thornbury Running Club, but many of us remember Craig’s days with ESM, both as an athlete and as a coach. A cerebral palsy athlete himself, he trained and competed with the roadrunning section, as well as coaching the Wednesday  night track session in the early 2000s.

He competed over 800m, 1500m and 5000m at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, and then went on to become involved with the Cerebral Palsy International Sport and Recreation Association among other groups, and has helped hundreds of young people to compete.

The photo was taken quite a long time ago in France, on a trip organised by erstwhile member Dave Case.

Everyone at ESM extends their congratulations to Craig for his well-deserved award.
