There were PBs galore at the Watford Open last night, despite the chilly breeze and the intermittent rain. Eight ESM middle distance athletes took part in the graded 1500m races, and seven of them went home with PBs. The biggest improver was Lucy O’Brien, who sliced 11 seconds from her previous […]
Ben Waterman was only narrowly beaten in the 800m, and came away with a silver medal in a time of 1:51.43. Mo Hashi contested the 1500m but was eliminated in the semi-final. Siobhan Drummond competed in the discus but couldn’t replicate her recent good form and did not make the cut.
Our U13/U15 squad finished sixth in their first Youth Development League match of the season last Saturday at Twickenham. There were plenty of enthusiastic new faces in the 30-strong squad, especially Under 13s, for most of whom this was a first experience of track and field competition. For the U15 […]
Mel Newbery broke her own 5000m club record yesterday at the OSU High Performance meeting in Oregon, with a time of 16:33.71. (She set the previous record of 16:35.23 almost exactly five years ago, while still an Under 20, so that time will stay on the club records too!)
Seven ESM roadrunners completed the London Marathon on Sunday. Many more club members lined the route to cheer them on through those moments of pain and self-doubt. And we shouldn’t forget Dorothy Johnstone, who once again gamely stood for nine hours as a marshal on Tower Bridge. Luckily, the rain […]
ESM was well represented in Sunday’s Mini Marathon. All 32 London Boroughs compete against each other in different age group categories, and the vast majority of young athletes from the Borough of Ealing were ESM club members. The races are run over the final three miles of the London Marathon […]
We are sad to announce the death of Modupe Cole, who died last Wednesday 22nd April aged 55. She had been suffering from Motor Neurone Disease for the past three years. A talented middle distance runner, Modupe competed for the club for many years during the 1980s & 90s. For any […]
We were narrowly beaten into third at the first Southern Athletics League meeting of 2015 at Uxbridge on Saturday, behind hosts Hillingdon AC and Newbury AC. We were placed first in 24 events – the men and the women contributed equally to the overall points tally, but the women claimed […]
Ben Waterman set a new course record of 15:50 at Northala Fields parkrun this week, while 20 “graduates” of the ESM Couch-to-5k course completed their first 5km run at the same venue. We had 20 ESM parkrunners out this weekend, at Northala, Gunnersbury, Fulham palace and South Oxhey, and a roundup of […]
