Ealing Eagles 10k – Gunnersbury Park – Sun 10 May 2015

We had a successful morning at the Ealing Eagles 10k in Gunnersbury Park on Sunday, scooping the men’s and women’s team awards.

Jamie Taylor-Caldwell won the race outright by a minute from Paul Piper of West 4 Harriers, with Jamal Mohamed of Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets close behind in third. Veteran Pete Flewitt took fifth spot, opening up a gap towards the finish after a race with fellow M40 Rachid Afouzar of the host club. James Hughes in ninth competed the scoring team.

Veterans Fiona Kennedy and Grazine Narviliene led home the ESM women’s team in seventh and eighth respectively. After struggling in the mid-section of the race, they worked together to overtake four women in the closing kilometres. Carol Jones was third to score, running well over a rarely-run distance for her.

There were individual wins also within the veteran categories. Pete Flewitt was rewarded with the first veteran’s prize, while Fiona Kennedy won the award for first woman aged 55+.

It was a good turnout from the club’s road-running section for the first of the new club championship series, with 24 athletes taking part. The next race is the Stockley Park 10k on Sunday 17th May. Entry details here.
