Stockley Park 10k – Uxbridge – Sun 17 May 2015

After our successful outing at last week’s Ealing Eagles 10k, a slightly smaller group of 11 set off to tackle the multi-terrain Stockley Park 10k. Steve Elson made a welcome return from an Achilles injury to take third place in the men’s race, while Mark Delahunty, also absent last week, finished twelfth. Darren Halford, less […]

YDL Upper – Portsmouth – Sat 16 May 2015

With exam season under way, it was a slightly depleted squad of U20/U17 athletes who travelled to Portsmouth for the second match of the Youth Development League on Saturday. However, we won eight events, and witnessed a good crop of PBs. The athletes did their best to maximise points by competing in events outside their […]

Ealing Eagles 10k – G...

We had a successful morning at the Ealing Eagles 10k in Gunnersbury Park on Sunday, scooping the men’s and women’s team awards. Jamie Taylor-Caldwell won the race outright by a minute from Paul Piper of West 4 Harriers, with Jamal Mohamed of Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets close behind in third. Veteran Pete Flewitt took […]

Watford Open – Wed 06 May 2015

There were PBs galore at the Watford Open last night, despite the chilly breeze and the intermittent rain. Eight ESM middle distance athletes took part  in the graded 1500m races, and seven of them went home with PBs. The biggest improver was Lucy O’Brien, who sliced 11 seconds from her previous best, but Mo Hashi, Mukhtar […]

BUCS Champs – Bedford – Sat 02 to Mon 04 May 2015

Ben Waterman was only narrowly beaten in the 800m, and came away with a silver medal in a time of 1:51.43. Mo Hashi contested the 1500m but was eliminated in the semi-final. Siobhan Drummond competed in the discus but couldn’t replicate her recent good form and did not  make the cut.

YDL Lower – Twickenham – Sat 02 May 2015

Our U13/U15 squad finished sixth in their first Youth Development League match of the season last Saturday at Twickenham. There were plenty of enthusiastic new faces in the 30-strong squad, especially Under 13s, for most of whom this was a first experience of track and field competition. For the U15 Boys, debutant Mattia Cilurzo proved […]

Mel Newbery breaks club 5000m record – Oregon – Sat 02 May 2015

Mel Newbery broke her own 5000m club record yesterday at the OSU High Performance meeting in Oregon, with a time of 16:33.71. (She set the previous record of 16:35.23 almost exactly five years ago, while still an Under 20, so that time will stay on the club records too!)

London Marathon – Gre...

Seven ESM roadrunners completed the London Marathon on Sunday. Many more club members lined the route to cheer them on through those moments of pain and self-doubt. And we shouldn’t forget Dorothy Johnstone, who once again gamely stood for nine hours as a marshal on Tower Bridge. Luckily, the rain which had been predicted for […]

London Mini Marathon –...

ESM was well represented in Sunday’s Mini Marathon. All 32 London Boroughs compete against each other in different age group categories, and the vast majority of young athletes from the Borough of Ealing were ESM club members. The races are run over the final three miles of the London Marathon course, from the old Billingsgate […]

Southern Athletics League &...

We were narrowly beaten into third at the first Southern Athletics League meeting of 2015 at Uxbridge on Saturday, behind hosts Hillingdon AC and Newbury AC. We were placed first in 24 events – the men and the women contributed equally to the overall points tally, but the women claimed more victories, while the men […]
