London Youth Games – Crystal Palace – Sun 05 Jul 2015

Two of our young athletes came home with medals from the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace last Sunday. Mattia Cilurzo (pictured left) won silver in the long jump and Lucas Sheehan (pictured right) won bronze in the 200m. Two of the girls were also highly-placed in their events, with Ami Kourouma sixth in the shot putt and Lucy O’Brien seventh in the 1500m.

In all, fourteen young athletes from ESM were selected to represent the Borough (though two did not compete on the day). All performed well, and some achieved personal bests. Kai English threw a PB in the shot, while Maateo Vao equalled his recent PB in the high jump, and Demi Beavis improved yet again in the javelin. However, all those lucky enough to take part will have gained valuable experience at this major sporting event.

The Borough’s boys’ team finished ninth out of the 31 Borough teams and the girls finished 20th.

Well done to all, and thank you to the coaches and team managers who put so much time and effort into preparing our young athletes and supporting them on the day.
