ESM gained little from having home advantage for these champs with only the veteran men coming close to team success. Angelo John continued the good form he showed at Claybury by winning the veteran men’s individual silver medal.
Fiona Kennedy, in her first race as a V55, was our leading runner in the women’s 6km race, finishing in 12th place. With Grazina Narviliene 19th and Carol Jones 41st, the veteran women’s team came 5th. Jane Ruhland on her cross country debut finished 59th.
In the men’s 5 mile race, Angelo John finished 13th overall, more than a minute clear of the next Ealing runner Mohamed Hashi, who was 24th. Next home was Rob Brown (38th) followed by Mark Delahunty (50th), Jon Ellis 58th in his first cross country race for ESM, Tom Yates (61st) and Doug Buckeridge (77th).
Ciaran Eaton, another making his cross country debut, finished 85th ahead of veterans John McKim (100th), Steve Plested (105th), Eamon Bradley (109th), Ian Leslie (110th) and Ian Birch (117th). The veteran men’s team finished on 86 points, the same number as the third-placed team, Serpentine.
