YDL (U17/U20) – Abingdon – Sun 23 July 2017

Our Ealing St Mary’s composite team sent a reduced squad to Abingdon for the final YDL match last Sunday. Holidays and injuries took their toll on the team, which led to us finishing third out of the five competing teams at the match.

The strong Guildford team won this match as they have won every match this season. Vale of Aylesbury finished second; they have been close to us all season and simply managed to send more athletes to this match.

Despite windy conditions, we had no rain at the superb Abingdon facilities and the team produced some excellent performances.

For the U20 men, Luke Miller won the javelin again with a throw of 54.70m. Kamau Muhammad won the B string with 28.06m. Luke also went on to finish second in the triple jump (10.02m) using his explosive power to show he can jump as well as throw.

The U20 women saw Zoya Styles win the hammer with a throw of 39.39m. She was also third in the shot and discus.

For the U17 men, Sudeys Hersi won a tactical 800m race with a time of 2:14.

Feia Starkey won the U17 women‘s 300m hurdles again. In her first ever competitive high jump she won with a leap of 1.40m, and she was also second in the 300m. Likewise, Emily Nicholson-Stanwix won the triple jump with a very respectable debut performance of 9.56m. Feia Starkey and Anisa Ibrahim combined with their St Mary’s teammates to win the U17 women’s 4 x 300m relay.
