Timed 5K – Pitshanger Park – Fri 21 Jul 2017

Fifteen runners turned out on a muggy July evening for the second and final 5k club championship race, writes Philip Prince. The event was well marshalled by an ample supply of volunteers and unusually had two lead bikes – Andy and Cath.

Santosh finished first overall and Carol was first woman to finish. Mark Kencroft and Mark Delahunty consolidated their positions in their respective age group categories.

There were good consistent performances throughout – Lynn working her way upwards through the field and Louise finishing strongly to finish in just under 24 minutes.

Simon’s form continues to pick up and Kevin, Iskander and Barbro (pictured) put in times on a par with recent parkruns but on a more challenging course. Malcolm continues to progress his fitness and it’s always good to see Ian out running, even if he was also ‘promising’ to turn up in fancy dress soon at Northala – if he gets a Saturday off.

Although Pat and Alison felt out of sorts and didn’t complete the run, we had the welcome appearance of a couple of local guests: Oliver (who finished a very creditable third) and Ann.

Afterwards a good social gathering in the nearby Duke of Kent – many of the runners refreshed themselves and were joined by marshals, spectators and other club members also giving in to the lure of excellent company and a drink or two. Long may it continue!

Thanks to Sughra and Cath for taking a few snaps in the course of their volunteering duties. You can find more on our Facebook page.
