Our next Cross Country fixture is the Metropolitan League race at Claybury/Woodford on Saturday 13th October. The Met League is one of the largest and most competitive cross country leagues in the UK.
Claybury is a moderately easy course, except for the sharp little hill at the bottom of the course going up into the woods. However, the route is narrow and those who want to do well need to get a good position from the beginning. There are races for all age groups starting off with under 11s and finishing with the senior runners.
Minibus: Leaves Stockdove Way at 10:45am and returns at approx. 5:00pm
Driving directions: Take North Circular Road (A406) in North East direction past Brent Cross. Continue along through the Bounds Green roadworks. Continue on Nth Circ Rd past Edmonton and across River Lee. After the turn-off for Woodford (before M11 turnoff) get into left hand lane. Turn left at Charlie Brown roundabout, follow signs to Chigwell (A113 Chigwell Road) for about 1 mile. Immediately after you drive under the M11, turn left into the Ashton Playing Fields car park. Please park in this car park rather than in the streets near the race start, as residents will not allow the race to continue if these streets get blocked up. Short ½ mile walk up to the course (see next paragraph).
Public Transport: Woodford is on Central line. Follow Snakes Lane East for ½ a mile to Chigwell Rd, under motorway bridge (see above). From Ashton Playing Fields car park, cross road and walk up Roding Lane North up to course at top of hill. Postcode for Ashton Playing Fields is IG8 8AA.
