YDL (U17/U20) – Guildford – Sun 30 Apr 2017

ESM’s largest team of U20 and U17 athletes for over a decade joined forces with St Mary’s AC to form a combined team competing at Guildford yesterday, writes Tim Hannah.

Ealing St Mary’s came second, less than 80 points behind the powerful home team in a match of five clubs. Our field eventers were especially successful, gaining 50 more points than the Guildford & Godalming field squad.

Ealing winners included Luke Miller who won the U20 Javelin with a throw of 54.98m, a Grade one performance. Kai English won the U17 High Jump with a leap of 1.65m, Ilyes Iman made it a double victory winning the B string with a jump of 1.40m. Nicola Ravenhill won a lonely U20 Steeplechase in a time of 5:34 – thanks to Alan Keeler for the photo. Isha Habib won both the Long Jump (4.96m) and the Triple Jump (10.04m). Roisin added to the Triple Jump points winning the B string with 8.86m.

As well as Luke Miller’s Grade 1 Javelin throw, other graded performances came from Zoya Styles whose Hammer throw of 40.43m earned a Grade 3. Kai English’s Discus throw of 28.94 earned a Grade 4 and Feia Starkey’s 300m hurdles performance of 48.8 was worthy of Grade 4 as well.

With the next two matches being held at our Perivale home, ESM’s Under 20s and Under 17s look set for a very successful summer, with promotion still a strong possibility.

Thanks to all our officials who came with us – we gained maximum officials points. Thanks also to the team captains Kamau and Roisin who helped organise the athletes and provide inspiration.
