ESM Athletes Enjoy Championship Success

ESM athletes have been in medal winning form in National Championships during July. The English Schools Championships were held in the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on 10th and 11th July. Lelia Newth got off to a flying start on the Friday morning, producing a fine series in the Under 17 long jump, winning with an outdoor personal best of 5.93. On Friday evening Ealing provided 2 members of the Middlesex Under 19 4 x 100 relay team which took the silver medal. Connor Chung-Tak-Man ran a fine first leg, handing over a lead. Lashaun Thorpe-Mclean ran a strong 3rd leg handing over in second place. Emmanuel Ofori-Manteaw won his Under 15 100m heat comfortably and pulled clear of the opposition in the final to take the gold medal in 10.99. The England Athletics Championships were held in Bedford on 25th and 26th July. In the Under 18 400m Al-Tayib Adam qualified comfortably for the final, finishing 2nd in his heat and semi-final. In the final, he coped very well with the strong wind, running a relaxed first 300 and producing a very strong finish to get up to take the bronze medal in the last strides. His time of 50.11 was very impressive in the very windy conditions. Lashaun Thorpe-McLean won his heat of the Under 18 200m in an U20 Club Record time of 21.68. He then won his semi final and finished 6th in the final. Connor Chung-Tak-Man reached the semi final of the Under 18 100m, running 10.92. Sion Jones ran a personal best of 11.06 in the 100m. Emmanuel Ofori-Manteaw stepped up to the Under 16 age group and ran a very fast 10.85 in his heat. Another athlete running a personal best was Gabriella Nnatu with 26.01 in the semi final of the Under 16 200m.
