Southern Intercounties – Mile End – Sun 13 Jul 2014

Six of our athletes represented Middlesex at the Southern Intercounties Track and Field Championships at Mile End on Sunday. On the track, Grazina Narviliene achieved a personal best when winning the 3000m walk (14:30.97), while Kat Mertens ran a personal best of 2:16.53 to finish fifth in the 800m. In the field, Debbie McCaw won the B string hammer competition with a season’s best throw of 45.74m. Long jump specialist Emma Gayler jarred her back early in the competition, but finished fifth nonetheless with her jump of 5.45m. Siobhan Drummond finished fifth in the discus B string.

For the men, Jamie Taylor-Caldwell won the 800m B race by a comfortable margin in 1:58.87, despite having run a season’s best of 3:51.95 over 1500m at a BMC meeting in Trafford the previous day. Ben Waterman was also at the BMC meeting, where he knocked nearly four seconds from his 1500m PB with an impressive 3:46.70 clocking. That same day, team-mate Guillaume Adam finished fifth in the 1500m at the French National Championships (in the slightly slower time of 3:47.39!)a
