PBs at Remembrance Essex Half & Dorney Lake 5k

Nicky Payne, Sean Hanrahan & Colin Foster all set new personal bests today despite cold, wet and blustery conditions.

Nicky has only recently joined us from Harrow but this was already her 2nd PB in ESM colours. She said after the race:

“With races throughout the day the rescheduled ‘Remembrance Run’ located at Debden Airfield in Essex, included 5km, 10km, HM and 1 mile. I opted for the Half finishing with an unexpected small 20sec PB finishing in 93.55. Given the conditions (with part of the course water logged) and my own expectations I am happily surprised.”

Over at Dorney Lake, Sean & Colin set off in a group of 5 with some Ealing Eagles for company. Going in with parkrun PBs of 18.00 and 18.16 respectively, they were both happy with their times of 17.19 and 17.48. However they both said there’s more in the tank on another day. That’s what we like to hear!

It’s a flat course, but extremely open to the elements and with a following wind on the way out, it made for a very tough second half to the race. Certainly bodes well for further improvement in the near future.

Up next week (Covid permitting!) is the Wolverton 5k. ESM have 7 entrants there, including the long awaited head to head battle of Men’s Team Captains Jamie T-C and Chris Hepworth.

Jamie has a 30-3 winning record against Chris, but is on the comeback from a long-term hamstring injury and Chris is benefitting from some very consistent training through lockdown.

Also racing are: Elias Ahmed, John Fielding, Akira Anzai-Jackson, Jonathan Horan and Seweryn Czapka.
