Intercounties Cross Country Champs – Birmingham – Sat 08 Mar 2014

Seven of our young athletes were selected to represent Middlesex in the Intercounties cross-country championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham last Saturday, where the relentlessly undulating and boggy course represented a tough challenge to all the athletes in this high quality competition.

The club had three representatives in the U13 boys’ race. In a reversal of their last two encounters, Lucas Sheehan (141st) managed a nine-second advantage over Naoki Kanai (172nd), while Patrick Owen (211th) completed the 3km race just 15 seconds later. The boys finished fourth, fifth and seventh in the County team.

The U15 boys’ race took in 4.5km of the parkland, and John Fielding (143rd) was fourth Middlesex scorer.

In the 4km U15 girls’ race, Nicola Ravenhill (152nd) finished just three seconds ahead of Erica Wallace (154th). Laura Stewart (205th), wearing a Middlesex vest for the first time, crossed the line less than a minute later. The girls were fifth, sixth and eight for the county.
