Five of our young athletes were selected to represent Middlesex at the prestigious English Schools Track & Field Championships held over two days at Gateshead.
The highlight was the bronze medal won by Phoenix Lyon in the 4 x 100m relay, where he led throughout the opening leg. Phoenix also made it through to the 200m final, having run a season’s best in the first round, and within a whisker of his personal best.
Luke Miller finished fifth in the javelin, also producing a performance close to his best. Nicola Ravenhill ran only her fourth steeplechase race and once again improved her personal best. Sprinter Brandon Rochester and 400m runner Reef Hook both came close to qualifying for their finals. Brandon only missed out by 0.05 of a second and it is his first year in this age group so he has another chance next year.
