The Under 15 Boys silver medallists
Ealing had a very successful start to their London Youth Games campaign for 2018. The Boys teams came 10th overall and the Girls teams 13th.
The London Youth Games is a multi sport competition held annually between the 32 Boroughs of London. ESM athletes form the bulk of teams for Cross Country and Track & Field athletics. We were out in force last Saturday morning for the first of the sports competitions for the 2018 year, the Cross Country races at Parliament Hill overlooking Central London. Cold weather with the threat of drizzle encouraged the athletes to hurry up and get back for a burger at the farmers market as quickly as they could!
The star of the show was ESM’s own Mohamed Ali who won the Under 15 boys race in a clear victory, 100 yards ahead of the second runner. In third place was Ealing Borough’s Abdifatah Khalif and our third place runner was Hanad Ahmed who came 17th. We were hoping to be the first team, but had to settle for second place in the team results just one point behind a strong Wandsworth squad. The other U15 boys running were Arun Manget in 58th spot, Felix Mountford in 92nd, Marcus West coming 124th, Oscar Jones who came 124th, Matteo Lamagna in 133rd, Seweryn Czapha in 154th and Vitaly Bender who finished 157th.
The Borough’s next most successful team were the U11 girls who finished in 8th place out of the 32 boroughs. Scorers were Mia De Vivenot in 17th place, Charlotte Browne 23rd and Riya Kantameni came 35th.
The U11 boys team came 9th, courtesy of Freddie Whyle 26th, Alec Edgar 41st and Hirosmara Kiosta 43rd.
The Under 15 girls came 16th led by the talented Zakia Mossi who finished 6th. Anna Ilchenko came 65th, Mia Simpson was 158th and Katie Hay finished in 191st place.
Our U13 Boys put up a good show. Scorers were Finn Combe who came 29th, Maxi Steel in 92nd and Arun Smith in 96th.
The U13 Girls came 20th. Lucy Henson finished 49th, Chantelle Boyle was 95th and Maisie Hugill came 105th.
In the Under 17 age groups, the women placed 12th. Lucy O’Brien led them home in 39th place followed by Emily Nicholson-Stanwix in 66th and Maryam Hussein just behind her in 87th.
The U17 Men came 16th. Tom Bagnall brought the team home with a 57th place run, Aaron Ajayi was 60th and Chauncey Edwards finished 87th.
