Ten medals was the final tally for our field eventers at the BMAF Championships in Birmingham last weekend.
On Saturday, Debbie McCaw won gold in the W35 weight throw and silver in the hammer, while Tracey Gould was second in the W40 weight throw and third in the hammer. Tracey was actually awarded a gold and a silver medal respectively, as the winning athlete as not a member of a veteran club. That same day, Bill Lonsdale won the M65 long jump with his best mark since 2014.
On Sunday, Debbie returned to win another three medals: gold in the W35 discus, and silver in the shot putt and javelin. Bill won the M65 high jump and finished second in the triple jump, again with his best jump since 2014. (We don’t have a photo but the one featured shows Bill – on the right – at the World Masters Championships in Daegu last March, where he won bronze in the indoor pentathlon).
Most ESM members will know of Debbie and Tracey, but Bill’s name will be less familiar (except to those who run at Northala Fields parkrun, where he is a regular). A long-time member of Aberdeen AAC, he joined us recently in order to be able to participate in the local Veterans’ League. (Next match 12th July at Perivale – all vets welcome!)
Congratulations to Debbie, Tracey and Bill.
