Stockley Park 10k – Uxbridge – Sun 17 May 2015

After our successful outing at last week’s Ealing Eagles 10k, a slightly smaller group of 11 set off to tackle the multi-terrain Stockley Park 10k.

Steve Elson made a welcome return from an Achilles injury to take third place in the men’s race, while Mark Delahunty, also absent last week, finished twelfth. Darren Halford, less than half a minute outside his PB for the distance, was third to score, but we lost the men’s team award to Burnham Joggers, with 42 points to our 56. Gary Stringer once again finished inside 50 minutes. John Falvey surpassed expectations by finishing without a mid-race calf malfunction, while Philip Prince completed his first 10k.

For the women, Fiona Kennedy took second place, overhauling a West 4 Harrier three-quarters of the way through the race, (but failing to hold off Darren in the last 10 metres). Claudia Manera finished fourth and took the W40 award, but West 4 Harriers took the team award. Battling her ongoing injury, Patricia Thomas did well to lead the remaining three women home, though Jane Ruhland and Liz Mann followed in close order, both looking as though they had energy to spare. Despite that, it was a PB for new member Liz.

It was a beautiful morning and a very enjoyable off-road course. With a pub and a Costa onsite (and outdoor seating) for post-race socialising, it’s definitely one to keep on our calendar for next year.
