NWLL – Hampstead Heath – Sat 16 Feb 2019

With many of our young athletes away on on half term holidays, Duke of Edinburgh duties, school trips and so on, a select band of just seven  travelled to Hampstead Heath on Saturday for the fourth North West London League cross country fixture, reports Team Manager Bridie Lebdiri.

Kian, Kevin & George

U13 Kian Jordan’s seventh place finish was impressive, in his first experience of club cross country racing. Kevin Prempeh and George Heleno were not far behind. This bodes well for the future of our U13 boys’ team, as we are lacking numbers in this age group.

In the U13 girls’ race, Catherine Gallagher (recovering from illness) put in a solid run, backed up by Mia de Vivenot.

Lucy Henson with her silver medal at the Middlesex Schools Champs

Lucy Henson had to dig deep today in the U15 girls’ race, and moved from sixth to fourth on the last kilometre, holding this position. Having finished second at the Middlesex Schools Cross Country, she now looks forward to the prestigious English Schools competition in a few weeks’ time. A remarkable achievement, considering the low athletics training volume. Mixing sports seems to be paying dividends.

Club stalwart Hussein Zaaiter

U15 Hussein Zaaiter has certainly been a club stalwart this season. He finished very strongly in what was a fairly tough course.
