North West London League – Harrow – Sat 06 Feb 2016

It was a blustery day in Harrow for our young athletes competing in the fourth and penultimate fixture of the North West London League.

With numbers generally apparently down a little in all fields, our small squad took full advantage, with three individual winners on the day. Anisa Ibrahim, who is continuing to develop as a distance runner, won the U15 girls’ race. In the U17 girls’ race, Nicola Ravenhill had to hold off a determined effort from Alice Harry of TVH in the last 100m. For the U17 men, John Fielding led from the start to finish with a good winning margin from our George Kerry in second. They were also the best U17 team on the day.

Tho of the other teams finished first in their age group. Our squad of five U15 boys also topped the table for the first time this season. Ilyes Iman led them home with a fine fourth place, Naoki Kanai, after his victory at the last match, had to settle for seventh. Kane Foster was back to strengthen the team, finishing just outside the top ten, while Jonathan Martin and newcomer Chauncey Edwards completed the line-up.

Unusually, Mikey Kouwiloyan was our sole representative in the U15 boys’ race, but his 16th place was his best finish this season.

The U11 boys were better represented, with five turning out. Newcomer Otto Lawrence made a useful contribution in 18th, being the second club member home, despite running in road shoes. Finn Combe was inside the top ten again, backed up by stalwarts Harvey Williams, Mohamed Ibrahim and Masaki Kanai – Mohamed getting ahead of Masaki on this occasion.

The U17 women also topped the team table for the first time this season, thanks to Nicola Ravenhill, Laura Stewart and Roisin Lynch claiming first, third and fourth place respectively. They are now 3 points clear of their nearest rivals going into the last fixture at Wormwood Scrubs on March 5th, with a good chance of lifting the trophy.

The U15 girls were short of a full team but still managed to finish second, with Anisa’s victory and Cameron Thomas in eighth.

Newcomer Sadie Lawrence made a welcome appearance in the U13 girls’ race, also making a sporting effort in the heavy conditions without the advantage of spikes.Well done to all athletes, and thank you to officials, coaches and team managers. The next meeting is the Met League at Alexandra Palace this Sat 13 Feb 13th (which anyone aged 9 upwards can take part in). The National Cross Country Championships are at Donnington Park, Derbyshire on Sat 27 Feb (entries now closed). The club is running a coach up to Donnington Park as a day trip, but you need to let team managers know if you need a place. Please contact Tim Hannah (07734 021877) or Kay Stewart (07762 112574) for more information.
