London Mini-Marathon – Sun 24 Apr 2016

The club was well represented in this year’s Mini Marathon. All 32 London Boroughs compete against each other in different age group categories, and a good proportion of young athletes selected from the Borough of Ealing were ESM club members. (Many of them were seen running at Northala Fields parkrun, which was one of the ways to record a qualifying time).

These hugely popular races are run over the final three miles of the London Marathon course, from the old Billingsgate fish market to the Mall outside Buckingham Palace. Several hundred runners in each race compete in front of thousands of spectators along the route. With an early start before 9.00am, the first group out were the U17 men. They came 19th as a team, with George Kerry (pictured) leading them home in 11th place – the highest position attained by our club members. Zach Wingate-Denys, Luke Adar and Jonathan Martin made up the scoring team and Eliot Stewart was also selected to run.

Next up were the Under 15 boys who came 16th. Ilyes Iman led them home in 49th place. Naoki Kanai was 70th, hotly pursued by Kane Foster. Sudeys Hersi completed the ESM squad.

The Under 13 boys had a good result, finishing eighth. The first club member home was Arun Manget in 40th, the second scorer for the Borough, with Dylan Rice not far behind in 48th. Mahiis Hersi was the fourth to score, while Matteo Lamagna and Mikey Kouwiloyan also ran well.

The U17 girls achieved the Borough’s best result of the day, finishing third. The club took all four scoring places, thanks to Erica Wallace, Jessica Harbert, Nicola Ravenhill and Laura Stewart. They were joined by Roisin Lynch, also a key member of the club’s U17 squad.

The U15 girls were 17th, with Lucy O’Brien leading the Borough in. Maryam Hussain was third to score and Cameron Thomas fourth. Club member Zoe Crown also ran.

The U13 girls placed 27th with club members Fiona Coutts and Fatuma Hussein representing the Borough.ESM results summary
