Ealing Southall and Middlesex’s U15 athlete, Leila Newth, concluded a wonderful July 2024 with three gold medals at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The first saw her take top spot in the English Schools U15 long jump for Middlesex in a thrilling competition where she equalled her personal best of 5.58m.
A fortnight later, Leila took on allcomers from across the UK at the British Athletics Championships, where she competed in both triple and long jump competitions.
In the triple jump, Leila flew to gold with a massive personal best of 11.84m, which was over a meter further than silver and puts her 3rd in the list of all time U15 triple jumps.
The nerve-jangling, hotly competed long jump competition saw the lead change several times. Three of Leila’s jumps extended her personal best before her sixth, and final, jump saw her leapfrog the Welsh athlete’s best of 5.70m, with another huge PB of 5.81m, capping off a captivating competition and a hugely successful season so far.
Leila’s sights are now set on the English Schools Combined Events championships in September.
