Bupa London 10000 – St James’s Park – Sun 25 May 2014

In warm sunny conditions and supported by a huge crowd of spectators, there was a record field of over 12,000 finishers at this year’s Bupa 10000, which is also the British 10km road championship. In his first 10km for 10 years, Pete Flewitt led our men’s team home, and remarkably, the 41-year-old triathlete was only a minute outside his personal best. U23 student Archie Allen-Jones was second to finish for the club, in his first 10km. Veteran James Steel could not quite match his recent PB, but sliced half a minute from his time at last year’s race, while Santosh Rai and Andy Leung both ran PBs.

Fiona Kennedy just held off Sarah Richardson to lead ESM’s women home with the best W55 performance of the day. Having recently turned 40, Sarah was 9th in her age group, while Lynn Wilson was the 6th woman over 55 to complete the race. Gosia Kucharska was the only female club member to notch up a PB.
