BMAF Indoor Champs – Lee Valley – Sat 11 & Sun 12 Mar 2017

ESM secured four medals at the British Masters Indoor Athletics Championships at Lee Valley last weekend, writes Phil York. Fed up with the cold and wet weather, a group of us travelled over to Lee Valley Athletics Stadium for the British Masters National Indoors Championships. Sprinter Jason Carty breezed to victory in the M45 60m dash, recording 7.27 in the final after winning his heat in a swift 7.37. How many more medals can he fit in his bulging trophy cabinet?

Tracey Gould picked up a silver medal in the W40 hammer throw. Margins are tight in this game, and Tracey’s 30.72m best effort was only a metre behind the winner.

Patricia Thomas (pictured) finished second in the W50 800m, taking home her first ever national medal. Carol Jones was delighted with her silver medal in the W55 1500m, recording an indoor PB of 6:05.88.

And didn’t we have a long debate over shall I/shan’t I wear spikes! Angelo John felt that his speed has suffered as a result of a long cross country season, but was satisfied with his 2:15.59 clocking in the M40 800m – we think this may be an inaugural Masters age group record for St Vincent & The Grenadines. Your correspondent, having given away the ladies’ ages, is left hanging on for his next birthday (and a new age group) after recording a season’s best in the M50 800m.
