VAC 5km Open Masters Road Race
After the Wimbledon Team Challenge, Vets AC hosted a 5k race over the same course around Wimbledon Park. Sean Hanrahan, Colin Foster, Ewan Fryatt (2nd claim) and Andy Bowen (2nd claim) represented Ealing.
Sean, fuelled by his first Astra Zeneca vaccine the night before, did well to get round in 17.53 given any side effects must have been on his mind!
Just 6 seconds behind Sean was Ewan (17.59). Andy (18.31) and Colin (18.40) were both pleased with their times given the big hill on the course.

The New Forest Off-Road Half Marathon
Leanne Smith competed in this scenic trail series in the New Forest. Leanne reported from the race:
“The New Forest trail 10/14.21km was ummm interesting! A really great course, loads of large trees to hope over. More like a long steeplechase. It was difficult to overtake at times so I had to hold back.
I opted to do the 14km in the end as I got a blister and couldn’t manage a gel. It was absolutely freezing and very disappointed that the routes all came up short by 1km.
I overheard some first time half marathoners leaving very disappointed to have not actually completed a half distance. Michael says he saw a lady bolting away from the finish post, yelling she wanted to get to 14km and get her money’s worth! First position for the 14km was apparently 29mins…some major time issues!”
