26 ESM athletes took part in the Qualifying Round of the England Athletics Virtual Road Relay Competition, with the scoring team finishing in an impressive 19th place out of 128 clubs.
This mixed gender competition was created by England Athletics to give runners and clubs from across the country the chance to compete against each other during the national lockdown.
The fastest 4 men’s and women’s times over a 5mile race distance, which were run between the 26th Dec-13th Jan, counted towards the team’s result.
Lots of strong running from the 26 athletes saw a hard-fought competition just to make the scoring team, which helped in achieving the brilliant 19th place.
By finishing comfortably inside the top 50, ESM qualified for the National Round, where the team will virtually face off against some of the country’s best clubs for the right to represent England in the Home Counties International Round.
The National Round will take place between 10th-15th Feb, with athletes again racing over 5 miles. As with the first round, everyone can take part, the more the better, and our fastest 4 men and women will complete the scoring team.
