National Cross Country Relays – Mansfield – Sat 04 Nov 2017

Jessica, Angel, Cameron & Charley recover from their exertions. (Spot the new ESM tent!!)

Teams from Ealing in nearly all age groups traveled up the M1 for the Mansfield National Cross Country Relays on Saturday, writes Tim Hannah.

There was rain for nearly all the journey up, but miraculously the rain cleared by Nottingham and we enjoyed clear skies for the duration of the races on the Mansfield course which goes through part of the historic Sherwood Forest.

Our Under 15 Boys team fared the best on the day in the 3 x 2k race. The team overall came 53rd out of 106. Arun Manget on first leg came in with a time of 7:32 to hand over to Mohamed Ali who ran the fastest lap of the day for an U15 boy in 6:18. Matteo Lamagna managed to hold on to most of the places Mohamed had gained, finishing in 8:16.

We also had a complete U17 women’s team for their 3 x 2.5k race. Angel Grimes-McTavish led the team out with a first leg of 10:08. Charley Cooney Quinn took over and ran 11:47 in her first race for the club. Cameron Thomas took the third leg in a time of 12:12.

Due to sickness and other short notice commitments, these were our only complete teams.

In the first 3 x 2.5k Junior Women’s race Nicola Ravenhill ran a lap of 9:19 followed by Jessica Leane with a time of 9:57.

Muktar Farah completed the Junior Men’s 3k course in 9:47. In the U17 Men’s race, Chauncey Edwards completed the same 3k course in 11:22.

Anna Ilchenko was our only U15 girl. She ran the 2k course in 8:31.

We did have two U13 boys. Finn Combe who ran the 2k course in 7:45 and Marco Lamagna who ran in a time of 9:01.

Finally, our three Senior men were short of a man on the final leg to complete their team. Nevertheless Mo Hashi completed the 5k course in 17:17, Ben Waterman took 17:51 and Sebastian Hanson came home in a time of 18:19.

The rain held off all day so our new club tent wasn’t put to the test we usually face on our annual visit to Sherwood Forest. Our merry band of men and women left Nottinghamshire as the sun was setting to make the long journey back to West London.
