Medal Success at the Middlesex RoadRelay Championships

Sunday 13th September saw the first competition of the winter with the Middlesex Road Relay Championships. There were some great team and individual results and fantastic running by everyone. We came away with Silver in the U14 and U16 Boys’ relays, and Bronze in the U16 Girls and U18 Men’s races along with individual silvers in both the U12 Boys and Girls races. The day started with the U12s, running 1 lap of the course as an individual 1.5km race. First ESM runner home with a great run was Daniel Ross in 2nd place (5:13), followed by Tommy Sibbering in 8th (5:36). In the Girls race, there was a fantastic 2nd place by Imogen Tringali (6:21) and close behind in 5th was Evangela Moussoulides (6:52). The first relay event was the U14s, run as teams of 3 with each runner completing 2 laps of the course. In the boys race, Oliver Ozols (11:39) got the team off to a great start in 3rd place. Maieul Girard-Reydet (11:09) with the 3rd fastest leg of the race pulled the team into second place, and they were brought home for a silver medal by Euan Mortimer (10:56) with the 2nd fastest leg of the race. Some withdrawals meant we didn’t have a full team in the girls race but a great first leg by Abigail Bennett (12:32) followed by Celia Cahill-Wright (12:21) on the second leg had them in 5th place at that point. In the U16s race, we had 2 full boys teams. The A team was led off by Josh Phillips (10:29) who handed over in 3rd to Clem Poulson (10:15) who ran a great leg to keep the team neck and neck with Highgate and 20 seconds behind leaders Ealing Eagles.
Owen Stubbins with the 3rd fastest leg of the race (10:00) was able to overhaul the leaders but couldn’t quite hold off the Highgate runner ending up with a great team silver. The B team were led off by Harry Martin (10:30) who handed over in 4th to Arlo Thompson (10:53) who was able to maintain this spot before Sidney Rochester (10:35) ran a great leg but couldn’t quite reel in the 3rd place team ahead ending up 4th. In the Girls race Maria Szyszko-Walls (10:20) ran a fantastic first leg with the second fastest time of the race. She handed over to Edie Kumar (13:11), who was able to come home in 3rd place before passing over to Cleo Kumar (12:29) who consolidated this for a well earned bronze medal. In the U18 Men’s race, Jack Hayward (9:32) led the team out with the 3rd fastest leg of the race, handing over in 2nd to Marcus Muers (9:53) who was able to hold this spot before Liam Hutchison (11:04) running his first race for the club, brought them home in 3rd for a great Bronze medal. In the U18 Women’s race, Emilie Walsh (11:55) led them out in 2nd place.
Megan Price (12:59) who is an U16 and stepped up to make up a full team and ran an amazing 2nd leg to keep the team in medal contention. She handed over to Cordelia Sadler (14:06) who brought them home in a very impressive 4th place. The Middlesex relay championships was a great start to the winter season, with some fantastic runs and lots of medals pointing towards a successful cross country season ahead.
