Celebrating Leadership and Dedication at ESM’s AGM

Report by Armen Kanikanian
Last night marked a meaningful evening for Ealing Southall & Middlesex AC as committee members gathered for the Club’s Annual General Meeting, celebrating commitment, leadership and the spirit of community that defines ESM. The President’s Cup and Service Award were presented by Club Chairman Tim Hannah, followed by the formal announcement of the new Club President.
We are delighted to welcome Debra Booker as the new Club President. Debra has long been a driving force behind the club’s junior development, overseeing Jumps, Endurance and Middle Distance. Beyond her coaching responsibilities, she has consistently supported club administration with care and dedication. In recognition of her new role, Debra was presented with the Club President’s medal, a symbol of trust, leadership and continuity. Her passion, commitment and deep connection to the ESM community make her an inspiring choice to lead the club forward.
This year’s President’s Cup was awarded to Beverley Packwood, a much-loved and ever-present figure within the club. Although Beverley was unable to attend the AGM to accept her award in person, her contribution was warmly recognised. A member for 16 years, Beverley brings energy, warmth and enthusiasm to everything she does. Her joyful personality is instantly recognisable, and her record of volunteering speaks volumes about her commitment. She spent six years managing the Summer League and has been a willing supporter of wider events, including the Ealing Half Marathon and the London Marathon. Her contribution has left a lasting impact, making her a truly deserving recipient of this honour.
The Service Award went to Peter Flewitt, whose 22-year service to ESM reflects remarkable reliability, organisation and devotion. As Membership Manager, Peter plays an essential role in welcoming new members, overseeing applications and ensuring that club processes run smoothly. His attention to detail and dedication behind the scenes keep the club running efficiently and reflect the spirit of service that strengthens the ESM community.

Tonight’s awards were a heartfelt reminder that ESM is built not only on athletic achievement, but also on passion, support and the people who give their time to help others thrive. Congratulations to Debra, Beverley and Peter, and thank you for all you bring to the ESM family.
