Veteran Pete Flewitt scored his first outright road win with victory at the Much Wenlock Half Marathon today, beating the course record by ten minutes. He ran 84:10, which gives you some idea of how tough the course is, when you consider Pete’s PB is 75:21! The race covers some very hilly terrain, taking in the footpaths, trails, bridlepaths and lanes in and around the town. Wenlock Olympian President Jonathan Edwards started the race and was there to congratulate Pete on his performance.
Fellow ESM member Steve Morris also made the journey, finishing 24th in 1:38:33.
A group of ESM roadrunners took part in the 7-mile road race in 2012, to get into the Olympic spirit prior to the London Games. This was pretty hilly too, but Much Wenlock is a very scenic town, and their annual competition programme has something for everyone.
