We had a fair turnout at Woking with 8 women and 19 men, writes Steve Treanor.
In the women’s events, we had Shereen Charles, Tabita Botuli, Shimiala Amin, Mel Newbery, Helen Leadbetter,
Laura Cameron, Charlotte and Tracey Gould competing.
In the men’s events, we had Sean Buckeridge, Kema Egbunike, Luke Nicholas, Martin Shelley, Ben Waterman, Alex Leslie,
Martin Shelley, Chris Hepworth, Angelo John, Akira Anzai-Jackson, Steve Elson, Rob Brown, Mark Cameron, Samson Baah, Tom Yates, Phil York, Martin Densley, Bob Densley, Paul Gibson and Jovan Watty competing.
There were a fair number of PBs.
For the ladies, Shimiala (400mH, HJ), Mel Newbery (1500m SC), Helen Leadbetter (SP, DT), Charlotte (DT) and Tracey (HT).
For the men, Martin Shelley (400m), Angelo (1500m), Steve (5000m), Mark (5000m), Luke (400mH), Tom (2000m SC),
Phil (2000m SC), Paul (HJ) and Martin Densley (SP).
Womens track events
100m: Shereen Charles came 1st in the ‘A’ race (12.2) with Tabita Botuli 1st in the ‘B’ race with a SB (12.9).
200m: Shereen came 2nd (25.1) and Tabita also came 2nd in the ‘B’ (26.9).
400m: Shimiala Amin came 3rd in the ‘A’ race (70.3). Shimiala also came 2nd in the 400m Hurdles with a PB of 87.8.
1500m Steeplechase: Mel Newbery came 1st with a PB of 4:46.0, lapping the rest of the field. It was nice to see her competing for ESM in the Southern Athletic League at Woking, as she does spend most of her time abroad.Thanks to Jean King for the photo (taken in between using a tape measure for the field events).
The ladies came 2nd in the 4x100m relays in 52.6.
We had no female competitors in the 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 100mH or 4x400m relays.
Womens field events
High jump: Helen Leadbetter came 3rd in the ‘A’ event with a SB of 1.35.
Shimiala came 4th in the ‘B’ event with a PB of 1.0.
Pole vault: Helen came 2nd with another SB of 2.70.
Long jump: Helen came 2nd in the ‘A’ event (4.59) while Laura Cameron came 4th in the ‘B’ event (2.79).
Helen also came 2nd in the Triple jump ‘A’ event (8.93).
Shot putt: Charlotte Gould came 3rd in the ‘A’ event (8.43) with Helen coming 3rd in the ‘B’ event with a PB of 6.20.
Discus: Charlotte came 3rd with a PB of 26.09 with Tracey Gould coming 4th in the ‘B’ event (11.17).
Hammer: Charlotte came 3rd in the ‘A’ (39.22) and Tracey came 2nd in the ‘B’ event with a PB of 19.84.
Javelin: Shimiala came 4th in the ‘A’ event (13.25) while Laura Cameron came 4th in the ‘B’ event (8.59).
Mens track events
100m: Sean Buckeridge came 2nd in the ‘A’ race (11.6) with Kema Egbunike 3rd in the ‘B’ race with a SB of 11.9.
200m: Kema came 3rd in the ‘A’ race (23.8) with Sean 2nd in the ‘B’ race with a SB of 23.4.
400m: Luke Nicholas came 3rd in the ‘A’ race with a SB of 55.0 (PB = 54.9, SB=56.7 in thepowerof10)
with Martin Shelley 3rd in the ‘B’ race with a PB of 58.1.
800m: Ben Waterman came 1st in the ‘A’ race (2:02.3), with Alex Leslie 3rd in the ‘B’ race (2:09.9)
and non scorer Martin Shelley (2:14.0).
1500m: Ben came 1st (again) in 4:16.8, with Chris Hepworth 1st in the ‘B’ race (4:17.5).
Angelo John was 1st non scorer with a PB of 4:34.1 and Akira Anzai-Jackson 4th with a SB of 5:05.8.
5000m: Steve Elson came 3rd in the ‘A’ race with a PB of 16:55.9. Rob Brown came 2nd in the ‘B’ race with a SB of 17:59.7
and Mark Cameron was the 1st non scorer with a PB of 17:31.2.
110m Hurdles: Samson Baah came 3rd in the ‘A’ race with a SB of 21.2.
400m Hurdles: Samson came 4th (89.0) and Luke Nicholas came 3rd in the ‘B’ race with a PB of 74.9.
2000m Steeplechase: Tom Yates came 4th in the ‘A’ race with a PB of 6:54.6.
Phil York came 2nd in the ‘B’ race with a PB of 7:04.6.
The mens team came 3rd in the 4x100m relay (47.7) and also 3rd in the 4x400m relay (3:33.6).

High jump: Martin Densley came 1st with a SB of 1.79. Paul Gibson came 1st in the ‘B’ event with a PB of 1.5.
Pole vault: Martin Densley came 1st with SB of 4.6 and Paul Gibson came 2nd in the ‘B’ event with a SB of 2.8.
Long jump: Jovan Watty came 3rd with a SB of 5.45 and Samson came 3rd in the ‘B’ event with a SB of 5.25.
Triple jump: Jovan came 2nd in the ‘A’ event (12.19) with Samson 3rd in the ‘B’ event with a SB of 9.23.
Shot putt: Martin Densley came 3rd with a PB of 9.43. Paul Gibson came 3rd in the ‘B’ event (8.3).
Discus: Paul Gibson came 3rd in the ‘A’ event with a SB of 22.36 while Martin Densley came 4th in the ‘B’ event (16.24).
Hammer: Bob Densley came 4th (17.96) with Paul Gibson 4th in the ‘B’ event (15.97).
Javelin: Martin Densley came 3rd in the ‘A’ event (35.27) and Paul Gibson came 4th in the ‘B’ event (26.66).
