ESM Runners Shine at the 2025 Valencia Marathon

Report by Armen Kanikanian
ESM was brilliantly represented at this year’s Valencia Marathon, with three of our senior men producing memorable performances on one of the world’s fastest courses.
Oliver Way produced a phenomenal run, clocking an extraordinary 2:18:19. In doing so, he smashed ESM’s 60-year marathon club record of 2:19:44, previously set by John Lusty in 1965. This outstanding performance also places Oliver firmly at the top of the club’s all-time marathon rankings, cementing his place in ESM history.
Simon Shaw also took on the challenge in the V50 category and delivered an exceptional time of 2:38:54. It was a superb run from Simon, proving once again what is possible with commitment, experience and smart training. A remarkable achievement for an athlete in his fifties.

Completing the trio was Adam Goodman, returning to marathon racing after a long period managing injuries. Adam put in a gritty and determined performance to complete the course, a huge milestone in his comeback and an encouraging step forward for the season ahead.
Three athletes, three impressive stories, and another proud day for Ealing Southall and Middlesex AC.
