We had a fairly good turnout of athletes for the final Middlesex Young Athletes League, reports Bridie Lebdiri.

It was an innovative programme consisting entirely of relays on the track: a mix of 100m, 200m, 300m, 600m and 800m plus a medley at the end, along with a range of field events.
U15 3x800m team: Mia, Sonia & Lucy
All ages from U11 to U17 competed, so team managers were very busy ensuring they had enough athletes, while officials had a huge task ensuring it all went off smoothly.
Jen from Ealing Eagles was busy co-ordinating the All Star teams (combining clubs who had insufficient numbers to make up a relay). ESM had to take advantage of this a few times but it proved fun, with athletes making new friends.
The U15 girls 3x800m relays had the added attraction of a ‘Lancaster Bomber’ flying past noisily!
Although this year saw our numbers down in the younger age groups, I am very encouraged by our current upper U15s. This group is progressing well and good friendships have been formed. They have put in very good performances across all events, with many multi-eventing. This bodes well for our teams in the U20/U17 YDL League and in the Southern Athletics League next year.
A very big thank you to John Falvey, who quietly does so much to ensure the smooth running of this league.
