Sprint Success for ESM at South of England Championships

ESM athletes were in fine form at the South of England Age group Championships in Chelmsford at the weekend, winning 5 medals. In the under 18 men’s 200m, the Club achieved a one two. In the heats both Lashaun Thorpe-Mclean and Connor Chung-Tak-Man won their races comfortably. In the final, Lashaun started quickly and led from the gun to win in 21.74 with Connor finishing strongly to take the silver medal in 22.10. Emmanuel Ofori-Manteaw won the Under 14 boys 100m comfortably by over 2 metres in 11.39. A very fast time into a strong headwind. In the 200m, he coasted to victory in the heat and in the final, won by almost 10 metres in a personal best of 22.74 in spite of the headwind.

The most exciting race of the day came in the Under 18 men’s 400m. Al-Tayib Adam won his heat comfortably. In the final, he entered the home straight in last place but produced a very strong finish into the wind to get up in the last couple of metres and win in a personal best of 50.32. Very close to a medal was Gabriella Nnatu in the U16 girls 200m. Having run a personal best of 26.03 into the strong wind in the heat, she finished very strongly in the final to take 4th place, only .05 behind the 3rdathlete.
