From Tokyo’s Silver to a Golden Night at Perivale Athletics Track: Georgia Hunter Bell Inspires ESM Juniors

Report by Armen Kanikanian
This evening, Ealing Southall & Middlesex Athletics Club welcomed home one of our own, Georgia Hunter Bell.
Georgia’s journey began at ESM, where her talent was spotted early and she trained diligently three times a week. As a youngster, she drew inspiration from a local hero, Dame Kelly Holmes, another ESM athlete who had gone on to win double Olympic gold. From those early days on the track, Georgia’s dedication and determination have seen her compete at the highest international level. Just nine days ago, she proudly represented Great Britain on the world stage, winning a remarkable silver medal in the 800m at the Tokyo Games.
Tonight, she returned to the track where it all started, and what an evening it was. At least 60 of our junior athletes (and likely many more) had the chance to run a few laps alongside Georgia, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Cameras clicked non-stop as excited juniors and proud parents posed for photos and selfies with their hometown hero.

There were plenty of surprises too, from a raffle where Georgia brought along sporting goodies for the juniors, to a spectacular cake presented to her in celebration of her Tokyo success, which was shared among everyone present. Juniors also took part in a lively Q&A, with Georgia answering their questions with patience, warmth, and encouragement. A special congratulations card, signed by athletes and parents alike, was presented to her as a tribute from her ESM family.
What shone through most, though, was Georgia herself, gracious and humble, giving her time so generously to the next generation. She had the patience of a saint, smiling for endless photos and speaking to as many people as possible.
When the evening finally quietened down and most of the crowd had drifted away, I managed to catch a quick word with Georgia. I asked her to sum up the evening in just one word, but she kindly gave a full sentence instead:
“It felt so wholesome to come back, to see the juniors, and to feel the love from everyone here. This club will always be a part of me.”
It truly was a magical night at Perivale Athletics Track, one that celebrated not only Georgia’s success on the world stage but also her enduring bond with ESM.
